Quite a few years ago I thought I would have a go at the root over rock style and at that stage I didn’t realise how long it takes to get a good grasp to the rock. That was another lesson in the learning curve of my bonsai venture.

If I were to start this type of project again I would certainly do it differently, but now I have an affection for this little trident maple probably because of the journey we have both been on.

After a few years in the ground it was first potted into a training pot in 2011 or 2102 and has been in the styling process ever since. I do need to do some work on the first branch and that will happen over the coming year,
