My opinion is that the book is one of the best you can get.
Fantastic information that goes well beyond standard techniques and practises found in very other Bonsai book.

I'm not too keen on the fairies-and-gnomes stuff either, but her artistic and technical knowledge is second to none. An excellent and valuable book, with generations of experience behind it.

We tend to be a prosaic lot - there are significant layers of poetic meaning in Japanese and Chinese trees that simply go over the top of our heads, mostly. Tying our trees in to wider mythological or cultural meanings might not be such a bad thing. I have no idea how to do it.

Deborah Korreshoff's drawings and styling is excellent. Her text however is away with the fairies.

Not second to none at all! Why guild the lilly??? I've see her trees. and the results of her workshops in the US. Average at best. Why are we so afraid of criticism in the bonsai world? The rest of the art world critisize the hell out of works. People make a living out of it. It makes people look more deeply and think and work with more conviction. Standards will only go up.
There are many other overated people...........and many under as well

This was the first book on Bonsai I brought. Reading this, just made me go and have a look at it again. 1st edition.

How meny other people have written a book on Bonsai. Or for that matter a book on anything?

Let a lone have a book re-printed!

I have a copy of Koreshoff's book, and I wouldn't ever part with it.
I sold Naka's book... thought it was a waste of money (to put it mildly).
Each to their own.

Deborah's book has long been regarded as one of the premier books on bonsai. True its not for everyone as one size doesn't fits all. Keep in mind that the book was written over 20 years ago and we have all learnt a lot since then. I read it and found it enthralling. A treasure trove of information.
We need to give credit where credit is due and honour those pioneers who paved the road on which we walk. Remember that the Korreshoff's (senior) were bonsai pioneers in this country and didn't have the wealth of experience available to learn from as we do today. We stand on their shoulders and much of what we take for granted today was discovered by them (and others) by trial and error - not by surfing the web or joining a club. They WERE the club back in the 50's!
