Re: [WANTED] Dwarf Bottle Brush seedlings
Most nurseries stock them, I got some tube stock from my local nursery a couple years ago for a few dollars each

Re: [WANTED] Dwarf Bottle Brush seedlings
Hello Pheonix, Thanks for replying. No nurseries up here in Broken Hill. Our one plant shop has a half-dead 1800mm callistemon for 18.50. Big W don't sell-em. Hence asking here.

Re: [WANTED] Dwarf Bottle Brush seedlings
They are commonly in the big green shed too if that helps
Otherwise, they strike quite easily from cuttings too, so you might be able to 'borrow' some cuttings from a local tree or something like that? They are everywhere around me, as they're used as hedges on a lot of government buildings
There are also a few places online that sell them, I've not ordered from them before personally (I can't in WA), but here are a couple that I found:
http://www.evergreengrowers.com.au/?pro ... ittle-john
http://www.daleysfruit.com.au/Rainfores ... stemon.htm
Hope that helps

Re: [WANTED] Dwarf Bottle Brush seedlings
The guy is in Broken Hill,so I don`t think there would be too many Big Green Sheds out there at least I didn`t see too many when
I was out there last month and come to think of it there aint much there at all.
Plenty of mulga on the way though and thousands of goats

Re: [WANTED] Dwarf Bottle Brush seedlings
Thanks Jason...
Nearest big green shed is 700kms round trip...
I was looking especially for C. viminalis ( dwarf "Little John )
Only place I've seen this up here in BH (outside of people's gardens) is planted near the courthouse / police station...
Not the place to go on a Yamadori expedition
The online sellers are a bit pricey...
Daleysfruit is $9.90 per cutting plus $14.62 freight = $24.52 (that's for a 45cm plant mind) So 3 cuttings approx $45
Evergreen comes in cheaper @ $3.20 (but these are 5cm cuttings) plus postage $14.00 So 3 cuttings approx $20
It's the postage I balk about - considering you'd easily stuff 3 x 5cm clean-root twigs into a Glad bag and pop it into an envelope for a dollar...
Oh well... I'll keep looking...

Agreed with the online sellers though, they are a bit pricey but thought it might be an idea, I only looked at a couple so there may well be others that are cheaper
Worst comes to worst, you could just snip a cutting or two from those bushes... just put on a high vis vest and act like you belong there

Re: [WANTED] Dwarf Bottle Brush seedlings
Hmmm... that should be council/shire land. Is there a council office/workshed around? You might be able to get in touch with whoever maintains the grounds to get access to their stock or a cutting or two from the copshop grounds. Perhaps worth a thought?Jedo_03 wrote:... This will be your best bet. Place the order on a Friday, so they ship it out Monday.
I have ordered from them before, and although the parcel arrived slightly damaged and the seedlings had come out of their holdings, if you order different varieties, you usually can tell what they are by the different trunks, because with my shipment, the labels had fallen out due to the bad shipping from Australia Post. All stock is very very young, like probably 6 months - 1 year.
I purchased 2 different types of casuarina, but unfortunately the box had been dropped, so I couldn't tell the difference, I'll have to wait till they get older.
You have to order in multiples of 5 per species, and a minimum purchase of 40 seedlings in total, so the cheapest order is usually $78.00, but its free shipping and they average about $1.95 per seedling, so its a winner for pricing.
crap... sorry. Just realized they don't stock this particular variety... ignore this post.

I've previously had (a variety of) plants sent to me via Auspost and, despite crumpled packaging, have never had a loss...dandybonsai wrote:Here's your plants coming Australia Post,or most parcel companies.

(Well... One... But I don't think that was Ausposts fault...)
(Most) plants and seedling are very resilient: keep their roots damp and all will be well...
I'll repeat what I said earlier: stuff 2 or 3 (even un-rooted) cuttings into a glad-bag with some damp tissue, pop them in an envelope and send via normal post...

Re: [WANTED] Dwarf Bottle Brush seedlings
Allnativesonline.com.au ship Australian native tube stock. I live rural and have had these guys ship plants all have turned up in excellent condition they use fastway couriers in my area. Tubes range between $2.50 and $3 each they do have a minimum order size and when I plan to order I ask around if anyone wants anything it keeps my costs down and everyone gets cheap plants. Mia

TBH, I'm unaware of anyone in Broken Hill who is a Bonsai enthusiast (certainly no-one I know...)
Allnativesonline only offer tubestock in quanties of 25x
Callistemon Captain Cook is $2.95 a pop so 25x = $73.75
Callistemon Little John is $2.95 a pop so 25x = $73.75
So... a total of $147.50....
plus Total Freight Cost (incl. Packaging & Handling) would be $53.50 (via AusPost)
Total = $201
Quite expensive for a retired pensioner with a hobby...
