Fresh Seed

Post by shibui »

The maples in our garden have lots of seed this year. I'm happy to collect and pack seed to order for Ausbonsai members.
Smaller quantities - up to 20 seeds per pack allow $3 each.
Larger quantities by arrangement.
Allow $5 for shipping up to 250g, $8.50 up to 500g weight.

We have a range of Japanese maple varieties in the garden but, because seedlings do not always grow the same as the parents, I cannot provide named varieties of seed. Japanese maple seed will generally be a mix of seed from our best Japanese maples.
Weeping Japanese maples grown from seed usually still have the weeping habit but leaf shape and colour are usually different from the parent. I can supply seed from several weeping maples if you want to try the often frustrating trial of growing these from seed.
We have abundant seed from the ever popular Trident maple. First class bonsai material.
Chinese elm has seed this year too.

I may also be able to source seed from some other species so it is always worth asking. Just PM Shibui to discuss what you need this year.
Trident and Japanese maple seedlings also available soon.

Yes and No Luke. I have some pine seed collected from large trees growing in alpine conditions at Falls Creek a couple of years ago. Trouble is I don't know what species they are from - large trees with 2 needles and small cones but that could still be any one of a huge range of species.

The Chinese quinces are now ripe and I've been processing some for Quince paste and Quince jelly
P1170143.JPG
While I was at it I scraped out some seeds for anyone who wants to try growing these. There are some fabulous Chinese quince bonsai showed at the major exhibitions in Japan. Flowers in spring, fruit in autumn and outstanding peeling bark.
Same arrangements as above.
PM or email shibui if you think you'd like fresh seed.
