I've been eyeing of this tree that is planted around my local shops up here in Hazelbrook in the Blue Mountains. I love the vibrant red this tree produces in the Autumn and would like train a few plants as bonsai.
Would anyone have tubestock from cuttings or know where I could buy tube stock online? I know the plant would likely turn out different, but I'd be happy with seeds too if anyone has some available or again, knows where I could buy them online.
Cheers,
Nathan.

For a start are you sure of your ID? I don't know of this maple being planted in Australia and I've just searched a couple of specialist maple suppliers and A. pictum is not listed. There are a few other maples that are more commonly planted in Australia that look similar though.

I can't be 100% certain as I used a "plant identification" app. I'm only going off the information from there.shibui wrote:For a start are you sure of your ID? I've now just used a different plant identification app, and this app has suggested Acer Saccharinum (Bird's-eye Maple).shibui wrote:For a start are you sure of your ID?

Re: [WANTED] Acer Pictum ssp. Mono (tubestock)
The tree being at your local shops sounds like a convenient opportunity for an air-layer.
That way you get a head start with a sizable trunk that will take a couple of years to match from tube stock.
With the owners permission you could set a few layers at interesting branch junctions and tapered sections'
Without owners permission I suggest airlayering at night
cheers

I've honestly been thinking of doing this. Unfortunately I have no idea who the owners shops are, though given where they're located, I suspect they're council owned.robb63 wrote:The tree being at your local shops sounds like a convenient opportunity for an air-layer. I did. They knew as much as me.Theodore wrote:Why not ask council what species it is?!
