A progression on this tree. It is now in a real pot and it has powered on and starting to look. I have decided to make it as radical as possible and i know some will love it and some not so much. But i will keep attempting to make it look as wild as possible. :tounge:

Love it, Bodhi. Great windswept. Truly spooky tree. Did you take any shots when it leafed?

Always loved the tree and think it is heading in a great direction. Not sure about the pot yet but I am maintaining an open mind.

Goodness me that is courageous...and wonderful!
First branch lhs, last pic, possibly softens the impact. But the tree is still gobsmackingly striking.

I would like to get it into a smaller pot to create more impact with this tree but i am still working on branching and i need the tree to bounce back after heavy work like this. Thanks for the feedback folks as its important to get comments positive or negative to help with the development of this tree. It will be shown as a winter tree as foliage hides all the branching. It will take another 5-6 years before this tree will make jaws drop. :fc:

Coming along really nicely, Bodhi :tu: Do your EE's take advantage of the whole growing season? I only have one myself and this was my first season with the species. After the initial growth spurt and cut back, only a few buds developed, and after they were grown and cut back, the tree has seemingly gone into dormancy. Im guessing its perhaps the heat here in SE QLD :lost: I have heard that hard pruning and defoliation early in the season can kickstart them into a more prolonged growth, have you any experience with this?

Back to your tree, I think it certainly works as a windswept, but the large, solid trunk seems to contradict it a little. Theres just enough movement there but I think it could be greatly enhanced through carving. Ive done a quick, ugly virt to show what I mean. I think opening up the middle would add both taper and movement which would go with the wind.
Im not sure if this is even an option though, as after drawing this up I remembered that the tree is already hollowed out from the side. Only you will know if it is aesthetically pleasing and not detrimental to the health of the tree.

Apart from that, I think the branching needs more up and down movement, they seem to be a little flat on the horizontal plane.

This isnt a critique, just observations of my opinion. Either way I love this tree, and its one of those magical bonsais that make the imagination run wild and stirs up different emotions. Its art :worship:
