Hi guys. Last weekend I purchased this olive from the adelaide bonsai show for 30 bucks. It has a bit of reverse taper but I think its ok. I will use this site as a bit of a record for myself but also for those that are interested in progressions. I know myself that I love to check out other peoples trees good or bad and see how they develop. Anyway here goes.

I gave it a bit of a chop in the next photo to change the direction of the leader.

only problem now is the reverse taper. I may just live with it or maybe it will need a more savage chop not sure.

It's a nice little tree. If you're worried about the reversed taper, I would suggest to simply cut at an angle about halfway.
It's an olive after all and it will grow back and you'll have a nice tree in the future.

I really have to get my head around the going backwards to go forward thing. To see it's progress to now and be told just cut it on half... I couldn't do it! :S

Well heshian I have given it a go. Couldnt look at the reverse taper for two hours so thought how could I looks at it for the next fifty years here goes

will have to do some carving later. Put wood glue on it for now.

nice job. Must say not what i imagined when it was suggested to cut it in half!

How did you make the cut? i have issues holding my plants while cutting off bigger branches..

Thanks. Just used hand held wood saw and cut carefully.

ahhh nice, i guess with a larger stump it makes it easier. I had issues with a hand saw on a branch about 3/4 inch thick, but too big for cutters. I ended up using a jigsaw. Worked good... well.. better than the hand saw. May have slipped and nipped off a bud

Good job and i like that little cutting, I did the same to a fig and now the cuttings shows more promise that the parent plant.

Hey Scooter do yourself a big favor and get a bonsai saw preferably a good one like you get from kaneshin bonsai , it cuts on the pull stroke and has fine teeth makes the job a lot easier

Hi scooter little one still sulking but still has all the leaves on it from when cut. it takes:-) no matter anyhow got more olives than I know what to do with

Small sighn of growth on the small cutting. There is a new leaf growing on the left branch near the trunk yay
