Sometimes its right under your nose - bougy dig

G'day all,

Earlier this year, my better half asked me to prune a bougainvillea in our yard that was getting out of control. Reluctantly I obliged (I hate the spikes :x ). We have been in this house for 3 years, and I had never taken notice.... but I discovered, to my surprise, this was potential bougy gold - right under my nose. Excited, I waited through winter until the warmer weather, and today was the day. I near killed myself, but here it is!
Only two branch chops, and quite a nice taper. I hope it will be a cracker in years to come. :)

Regards

Lovley trunk :-)
If you donot like the spikes, just cut them off.
Leave them a little stump as they shoot back at the base of the spines. If you cut back too hard on them you may remove thos latent buds.

Gold , pure gold :tu: what a great find , it has really good movement and taper . you don't have another one you just want to prune do you. I'd take on those spikes for you no worries  it's going to be a cracker of a tree mate

Hi wrcmad,

How is this one going?

I started growing a few bougys myself and am taking interest in them.
I have sworn off most exotics, but I do have a soft spot for bougys and swampys.

:bump:

Goodness me

How long was the dig and how did you find their roots system to be?

My friend's dads not really into bonsai somehow has a prehistoric dinobougy.. unbelievably big and it sprouted shoots last time i was there..

Think I need to visit and one day maybe he will part with it :shifty:

Yup update plz

Going well. :)
I'll get a pic or two on the weekend.

Dig was about an hour. It had a very thick, deep central root, as well as finer shallow, fanning roots. I put a mattock through the large root, and cleaned up under the trunk with a chainsaw. It never looked back. :)
