As the Older contributors know (not many left) i ran a giveaway "Encouragement Award" where i gave a tree or a gift e.g Bonsai pot, tools etc to contributors on this forum who were either having a hard time, something not nice had happened in their life, Paddles remember her? A lovely person into dog sled racing and had overcome cancer. And some showing great enthusiasm in learning ( Masonc). You get the idea, the first winner was Joel who is a wonderful person who showed me that i had selected a very worthy recipient for this award. Joel rang me recently, with great remorse, to inform me he wanted to send the tree back as he could no longer look after it as he had experienced numerous difficulty's in his life re work, life's up and downs etc. We communicated via phone on sending it back, the how to's etc and he organised a courier to send it down. I advised him to dry it out before sending not realising that the Courier who i cant mention... TNT... would be so slack as to not bother delivering it or caring whether it would be delivered..or not! After many, many, many phone calls by Joel and myself, and me finally losing it on the phone with, " i will come down there and stick the tree right up your", you get the picture, the box arrived ten-twelve days late. I instantly unpacked the tree and dropped it into a bath of seasol, miracle gro, and rhyzintol? Long story short, it has pushed buds and might continue to live. It shows me the toughness of Ulmus procera's and I will develop the tree on this forum with updates. It is called the "Joel tree" as i made a standing arrangement with Joel that if he ever wants the tree back, it will be here waiting, unless of course, i die, or get alzeimhers or something silly like that. Anyway here are the first photo's and will update.

Nice shape and from what I can see looks like it is on the road to recovery. The trunk is great and with some "filling out" will be a real good tree.
If you wouldn't mind, could you please keep us posted on the progress?

Great outcome. Good story. Its in great hands and if/when Joel is ready to take it back it will be in great shape.

Hey Bodhi, I'm sure you'll get this tree pumping out new growth in no time

This will be a good one watch how to rebuild a tree from the base structure.

Thanks for the kind words and sentiments, Bodhi. I look forward to seeing this tree progress and will definitely check in on AusBonsai every now and then. It has been another week. How is it's health?

The tree is recovering well and it can grow for a season. Maybe next year i could start work.

Nice Result Bodhi and good onya Joel.
Hope all works out as I was wondering where you were and what you were up to.

Bodhi, Pity you did not post anything asking if anyone locally could help out. I would be happy to care for the tree while organising / waiting for someone to deliver it. I have picked up several trees for Bougy Fan and cared for them until transport options opened.

Was only thinking the other day that maybe we could start a thread where people could post if they are able to transport trees around the country for each other.

This tree has made an amazing recovery and i made the decision to wire and design. It was happy to be back in Victoria i think.

You are a classy man, I can tell by the beer.
This tree reminds me a a tree that a very good English artist, Will Braddeley, has and exhibits a bit around the traps. I think Will is a very good exponent of English Elm bonsai and is worth having a look at his work.
Thanks for the update and now this will force me to defoliate a couple of my elms.

Pure class to go with the pure Blonde perhaps Watto

I have looked over Braddely's work and some of his tree's have inspired me. I have a five year plan and will record it. Glad to have pricked your conscience and making you pay attention to your tree's
