Hi Pearcy,
You mentioned in your post that you're still not happy with the nebari. I have a small trident that had a gap in the nebari, so over winter I took a Trident seedling originally obtained from shibui and sort of "grafted" it onto the trunk into the gap while repotting . I just scraped the bark of both the seedling and recipient tree to expose the cambium and then tied it in place. The plan is to grow the seedling onto the larger trunk with an "instant" root in place, and if it suits I'll use the seedling to give the tree a lower branch also. Couple of pics attached. The seedling is actually already getting green tips while the larger tree is still dormant. Cheers, Frank.

Returned from overseas yesterday, this one is crispier than American bacon.

I've stripped back the dead leaves to allow light in and moved it into a shady position.

Scratch test still shows some green in the trunk so hopefully it's just all the ramification that's gone.

Moral of the story, trust noone... especially relatives haha.

That lesson repeats itself over and over on this forum.
Cost me about $200 to set up a 4 x solenoid auto watering system with 6 programs, battery backup, and all the plumbing.... Less than the price of a good pot (or tree). Best investment I ever made.

Still doesn’t look all that bad. It should come good sit it in a Seasol bath to give it a good soak. Then hit it with the liquid Powerfeed. You have lost a few of the smaller twiggy bits but on the whole still has a twinge of green to it

damn it. I read all the way through this thread and i was expecting a wicked little tree.... totally bummed that it wasnt looked after while you were away. Did you have any other trees suffer the same treatment/fate?

I'm hopeful it will be fine, just annoying as I had worked hard on fine ramification only to have to cut it off. This was the only tree that suffered. Must have been the unlucky tree. Hopefully it will give it the the equivalent of just a defoliation in order to push buds in better places now
