I love your Fig mate, it has a very natural look to it and reminds me of some of the Figs that are on Observatory Hill Sydney, such as in the photo below.
What are your intentions with a pot for it in its future ?
Great tree again Kevin, looking forward to following its progress mate.
Cheers
David
G'day Dave,

Thanks for the kind words.
Since collecting the tree in 1997 all i have ever envisaged the tree to resemble is the shape of those old Figs around Sydney planted in the 1800's.
A pot - I really have no idea ATM. ANY IDEAS are more than appreciated.
A proper pot big enough for the old girl aren't too common.

Thanks again,
Kevin

Hi Kevin

Yes the remaining figs definitely pre date European settlement, small ones had no chance easier to remove and the beautiful hardwoods valuable ,the bigger figs no use and probably too hard to rid of with the tools of the day, maybe they thought shade for stock,we can only surmise...but lucky they still exist and protected now.

This type of fig is easier to distinguish as more forest(higher ground) as to the open woodland forests(lower flatter land) with the figs having taller trunks and obvious higher canopy MOST times.

Some more forest figs on the same property miles away, tried to zoom in closer...cheers

In-boxed you

Hi Keven

 I thought that it was as I have a big bogie in one, I placed three white pot feet under mine after I drilled a few drainage holes and covered them with the black drainage mesh.

Looks nice and natural Anthony will get a woody when he lays eyes on her

I think that it is a Port Jackson fig as it doesn't appear to have signs of the ear lobes where the leaf attaches to the petiole.

have you removed that major aerial root(trunk) or is it hiding round the back?

JC :o :D

Now Kevin here is a image of a fig, well actually there is a row there, where this was once a open woodlands forest (lower lands),the figs low and very wide(less competition I would say),height above ground only determined today by gnawing cows.
Off track a bit here but very interesting observation all the same.

This is all in the Illawarra one of the biggest homes to figs..a region made up by 3 districts which is 2 hours south of Sydney.

Hello tgward,

No i haven't removed it and don't plan to.
It sits at the back, perfectly aligned with the trees front profile.
Not too hard to disguise with the trunks nebari now at 500 x 500mm.

Hello All,

Another plus 40C here today.

Earlier today I had one of my little native mates join me in the shade for about an hour. Too hot for the dogs to notice, they didn't venture outside much at all, deciding to stay in the cool of the house.
