Amazing series! The base really looks like it accelerated when the aerial roots came into the picture.
May/Sept 2017 The tree front was changed? Interested to see what that view looks like now.
Thanks for sharing.

Love a good documented journey.
Thanks for the years of effort!
One of the fabulous things about growing bonsai is as you get old and decrepit your trees get old and beautiful

I missed this post earlier but I must say it is very interesting. Progressions are terrific and this one is very useful for newer members to see how bonsai develop.
Thank you for your efforts

Thanks for this progression series KCaR. Interesting to see the constant changes over the years, and love the way the roots sweep around the trunk. :tu:

Thanks everyone for the comments & interest -

 Anthony I'm not 100% on the species - it was originally purchased as bargain bin nursery stock (eg. tall skinny stick) and of coarse, no name tag.
Your guess may be correct? The last couple of years it has been shooting many aerial roots from up around the crown area, but I have been snipping these off.
You seem to know a lot about figs - your recent posts have not gone un-noticed :tu:

Some people don't rate figs all that much - but I enjoy them. Fig lives matter!

I too love my figs.

My guess would be Ficus superb var henneana. I haver a few as well as Ficus virens var sublanceolata and the first seem to get the colouring that yours has got in the new growth, particularly at the start of the growing season. Did yours lose it leaves in winter? Mine tend to look more and more ratty through winter, then what ever is left drop as soon as the new growth starts.

Cheers KCR.
You have shown keen fig growers a valuable lesson how to get taper with fusing lower ariels down low.
Great technique well done, priceless info especially for new bonsai artists, keep those figs coming

Cheers KC&R, another wonderfully documented tree that is so useful us newer folk.

For me, those last 4 photos are excellent and illustrative - I cannot believe the speed of growth!! And topped off by the best pot the series; I just love that pot with this tree. I’m with Frank too really interesting to see the sweep of the roots.

Thanks for taking the time to post this thread.

Another year past – another few pics to add to the journey update.
This fig suffered badly from a fungal attack again this last winter past.
I was unfortunate in losing some major lower branches which meant sawing off at the trunk line. The largest branch being one of the oldest at about 50cent size in diameter. :palm:

I have guy wired another branch down from above in order to re-balance the foliage shape.
Also placed in deeper pot beginning of spring to help re-gain some vigour.

Anyways Happy 2020 - YIPPEEE!!! (..import party popper sound here...)
