PJF 33

Fig progression...first image 25 October 2015

Today... Before and after.... trim the top and inner pads to let energy go to untouched shoots in red so I can extend them, then cut back to ramify and repeat and repeat, repeat and echo and so on :)
No defoliation this year, come out of winter pretty good and some spring growth to indicate good health to start again
Game plan get it nice and wide and now starting to get our pads sorted.

Looking good Anthony.

Did you have a particularly mild Winter? Is that why they're in such good health?

Thanks Guys.

Just to check my thinking and mainly for you Mel haha, nobody else mate, a look at my regions weather data,..... average winter temps during the day 15 to 21 Celsius with night temps to morning very cool but NO frosts especially as I am on the side of hill,..... this is a region south of Sydney area but butts their boundaries, it is said our winters are less harsh than there's with inland boundary being escarpment/mountain running the whole length, protecting and trapping conditions and good rain than most, as this is one of the capitals for growing PJF's and Morten Bay......So conditions pretty ripe for growing bonsai fig and I like to think my strategy with the trees health/care mainly before and after, don t start to I see some spring growth and stop working in preparation for winter with the tree getting back in full suit with many layers of leaves for insulation.

Plus giving the tree time off with defoliation, this is what really exhausts the tree, and when i here people deleaf 2,3 times a season WHY ?..poor poor tree
And my backyard faces true north getting east, north and west sun...phew one finger typing got there Mel, hope that helps Mel, lie if you have to, figs are ok, my finger is exhausted lol.

Hey thanks for all the detail, Anthony, it's very clear that your technique is extremely successful! I'll be referencing your words here in the future!

(Sorry for making your typing finger so tired! I won't ask any more questions....today.)

Oh, and lucky you living in that part of the state. I had a friend who lived in Berry, and we used to visit fairly regularly! Gorgeous country.

Here you go Mel, like Steven the mod and owner of site with his very inspiration makeover, I started this about good 8 mths ago I think, 4 stages with 3 all but done, tropical look with stage 2 more for Bonsai and stage 4 aviaries to go with a waterhole and hut and more plantings and bonsai stands in to come, lucky to have a farm behind me where cows come right to us, my boundaries fences have alot of clumping bamboo to hide fences and neighbours....just to make our yard a little bit more special, anything beats mowing lawns lol,

Little teaser before and afters

Stage 1, just topped this original stage up
