Ginko Biloba...As per request..Please add yours

This is my oldest gingko. it has developed quite a nice nebari and lower trunk but the upper trunk still leaves room for improvement. It is still in a poly box waiting for the right pot to come up. Dimensions: 65 cm tall x 45 cm wide.

Thats a nice tree you have there Shibui. I love the rich green colouring of the leaves! How old is it approximately?

I've always liked the Ginko biloba tree, I have a few that I'm trying to develop, but it is highly possible that a couple more lifetimes will be required to have anything decent as a bonsai specimen....

That is a lovely tree you've shown. Is that a branch or even a twin trunk from the lower right. I'd be chuffed to have this tree in my collection.

But it was reduced it to a twin trunk. It's a big size tree, and it has a heavier soil mix which it seems to like...

Can I ask what soil or medium mix is your ginko in guys....

Hi Elias, how big is it ? height I mean. I pot my ginkgo in the usual diatomite pine bark mix which they seem to like. I only repot them once every 3 years or so.

Shibui gingko - probably about 20 years from a cutting I struck, but that's only a wild guess. I don't think I had it when we moved to the farm - only a few trees survived the great 'plumbers left the water off for the weekend while I was away' debacle in summer 1986 so its almost certainly after that but not certain how long after. It spent a long time in a small poly box and was not repotted for quite a few years so has not developed as much as it might have.

Gingkos get the same mix as everything else in grow boxes - ANL bulk potting mix with osmocote 12-14month. I started out with extra sand for drainage but they don't seem to care.

i still have mine that i got off shibui , its coming along slowly of course, ill try to get a pic tomorrow as the rain has stopped. Last autumn it and my large garden tree had the most amazing yellow colour

Here is a mini that I have had for years, Grant Bowie had it for a number of years prior - it just copped a hard prune when this pic was taken back at the beginning of Spring. It leafed out nicely with small foliage but got a bit whacked by the heat we had about a week ago! This one is about 12cm tall (without taking a ruler out into the rain to check!)

here is mine a twin trunk also. Excuse the weeds i know im a bad boy height around 620mm and its about 95mm in the trunk. it actually has put on some girth this season and the nebari is quite good thats to shibui, ill update into autumn and also winter. i have a very nice early pat kennady pot i think will suit this tree well when the time comes.

Love the autumn colour of these trees

They are a slow grower which are hard to ramify and do have unpredictable growth habits but they do possess one of the most awesome autumn colours
Heres one of mine.

It suffered a bit of rot when i first got it. They hate to be wet. The spongy wood holds a lot of water so a coarse mix is essential. Tree is about 40 high by 30 wide.
I got the tree from my G'ma who'd got it off her dad so its an older tree, about 100 years. She didn't repot it for about 50 years as she was scared to kill it! She nearly dropped off the perch when I pulled it out and repotted it!! It has been a slow grower but rewarding every autumn all the same.
