Quotes that must be read!

Post by treeman »

I found this on another forum. It is one of the best posts I have read anywhere. I felt it was my duty to share it.

That is gold Mike.

But that quote in the other thread about using trees as inspiration instead of other bonsai, is what reverberates so strongly in my mind.

No problems Jarryd.
On another subject, can you get hold of Eucalyptus vernicosa seed?

Thanks for this post treeman :tu2: As a newbie it's music to my ears. I love bonsai, but all those totally manicured trees with their cloud foliage pads and contrived shapes don't appeal at all. I'm also of the belief that we cannot replicate a tree that lives "out there" or in the wild. We are trying to convey the essence of a tree into a potted plant, and to do this it should look natural. From the posts I have seen on this forum quite a lot of growers are achieving, or almost achieving that, and I find those trees the most pleasing to look at. Anyway, that's my :2c: worth.

Thanks Mike - an insightful post.

...and Rory's reference to
Rory wrote: that quote in the other thread about using trees as inspiration instead of other bonsai, is what reverberates so strongly in my mind.
Yep! I am interested in natives as bonsai for the obvious reason that they are often what I see. While I don't yet have many natives, I will soon try to emulate what I see on the Mornington Peninsula ... windswept Moonah's for example - what an inspiration for a bonsai forest. At least for me ....

Cheers.

Great read Mike. Something I have always struggled with. ( except my Eucalypts)

Kind Regards,
