For Juniper lovers. Some more pics from Yosemite

Hi everyone.

Here's some more photos of Sierra Junipers.

I took them on July 2 this year, on the side of a rocky/scree slope just north of the Lake Lukens trail-head in Yosemite N.P. California.

These trees grow at elevation and presumably are many many hundreds, if not thousands of years old. One can only speculate.

They are a large tree too, especially when growing on the lower slopes. I saw several that were about 10m high, with trunks over a metre thick.

You can check out the spot on google maps if you wish.

ENJOY !

One of the fabulous things about growing bonsai is as you get old and decrepit your trees get old and beautiful

These trees are Juniperus occidentalis (western juniper or Sierra juniper). It is a shrub or tree native to the western United States, growing in mountains at altitudes of 800–3,000 metres.

The Bennett Juniper in the Stanislaus National Forest of California is considered the oldest and largest example at possibly 3000 years old, with a height of 26 m and a diameter of 3.88 m.
