Beautiful trees.
Love the sense of scale
One of the fabulous things about growing bonsai is as you get old and decrepit your trees get old and beautiful

They are some great trees. I hear the leaves don't reduce at all from those who have tried them as bonsai. Wood is weak though, so branches fall pretty easy.

Also - I'm assuming you are actually in Fruita, Colorado, just across the border from Utah. If so, you're in my hometown! A drive over the Colorado national monument will be well worth your time to see some excellent Utah juniper and pinyon pine. Wish I was there!

Yes, I was in Fruita yesterday doingvthe scenic drive. It is an amazing and beutiful place.

I'm doing a lap of the big 5 in Utah - zion, bryce, capitol reef, arches, and canyonland. The junipers and pinyon pines are wonderful. Full of character. It is obvious where the big deadwood junipers originate and how are formed.

Just a matter of copying it. Simple eh?

Hard to beat nature, but we sure can copy. There are places where you can collect too, but I don't want to open that contentious can of worms. Hope you're enjoying your trip, lots of pretty sites/sights out there. I'm stuck in the plains, out in Kansas right now, and sure miss all the mountains and red rock cliffs. Hoping to move back in a few years.
Cheers, Karl
