Some sort of Black Pine

Hi to all,

Here is a black pine I had picked up earlier this year which had been growing into the ground so I pulled it up, paid for it and brought it home. I am now in the process of picking a trunkline for it potting it and fedding the shizen out of it.

I just thought I would post it up here for some virtual design ideas and ant thoughts from the wealth of people on here from all sorts of experience. I would love some designs from new members aswell as some of the more than experienced as we can then see how all of our ideas differ from what we know.

One other thing where is a good place to learn how to do this virtual design thingy that everone does on here so I can start submitting some of my ideas with others trees. The best I think I can do is a scanned drawing.

Cheers

By the way it seems to me the thickest first branch seems like the one to start with as a new trunk but I am not sure weather I should leave the others to help with more fattening or take them off to force more energy into this branch?

Hi Squizzy

Here's a little idea I had looking at the photo yay it over to the right, Jin the three small trunk's on the left & use the thicker trunk & build your tree from there

Love the sketch Squizz, and if that is doable then I would go that way without a second thought.

So I have given this a tiny chop and shape with the design in mind.

I think it could be acheivable but will allow it to grow for a season or two now with the new leader.

One question which I always have trouble with is when do I remove the unwanted branches and growth on the tree that I no longer wish to develop?

Thanks in advance

Hi Squizz

This is only my opinion, but the next move that I would make is to take it out of that pot & get it into a poly box in a very good open mix & plant it at the angle you would like it to be & then feed the hell out of it for the next couple of year's good luck

Its been a while since the last update on this one.
This pine has just been sat aside and feed for a few seasons. Its health has come on in leaps and bounds so I entertained the idea of giving it a bit of work last week.

I accidentally left some wire on a section of the trunk which had caused a severe bulge so I discussed some ideas about layering the top of last week in class.I will look at designing two trees out of the one tree and then layering the top half next spring. I realize this is effort with the risk that the layer doesn't work but I am quietly confident about the layer so I am going to give it a go.

I trimmed the needles back on the lower half this morning and picked my tree line. I may get to the second half this week in class???? The needles have only been trimmed to allow me to see what I am doing. This is not a practice to get short needles for those who are not aware.

let me know your thoughts.
