spooky trident

today im happy to say im the new custodian of this tree. it was jow's. thanks pal very much you da best . it is full of trunk and major limb chops. the fact this tree is so ugly and powerful is why i'm attracted to it. now my challenge is to take advantage of this fact. i see a scary spooky tree that is stretching its lower limbs down to grab a hold of the children this sunday i have the big stylathon at my joint and will work this tree with some carving, pruning and wiring. i would love to see and hear what you guys would do with it and especially you jow. these are the angles i like.the dimensions are; 250mm across the base, 500 mm tall and 400mm width in foliage at its widest points.

I would save a bunch of those trident seedlings for root grafts... the nebari is pretty good but it can be made better! The scars should grow out quickly. I made the cuts about a year ago so you can see its rolling over quickly...

good thing you bought it as i just bought a $300 shohin pot....

I like the figure it presents from the first photo you have shown...a more masculine pot and it WILL steal children, goats, people's breath etc..

I remember this one, it has a nice huge base, as Jow said with some grafting it could be awesome, can't wait to see what you do to it, very much looking forward to Sunday it should be fun

I had originally chosen the front that is is potted up as. The idea was to utilise the maximum width of the nebari spread.

I think the second branch up on the left of the original front is a thread graft and the idea was that it would replace the stubby branch above it, giving a much better branch placement.

I definitely agree with bonscythe, the first picture would make a very nice front.

Jow would you be able to tell us the history of it? Was the style done on purpose? It really looks awesome!

I am still debating how one might best have the branches exit the trunk. above below or with the horizontal.
Jow has done a great job with that trunk chop it looks as though it is healing nicely.

Hi,

My two-cent... I like the overall structure of this tree, I would not class it as
ugly as you said though. 260520092718.jpg is a challenge -- it would need
new branches pointing to the left.

The surface roots are balanced. I would not worry too much about the scar(s).
To speed up the healing process, a bigger pot, the right spot would do wonder.

Are you considering branch grafting at all Antonio? I have seen Mr. Ba Loc,
who is a member of NorthWest, and runs his own nursery, did it on trident
about this size. It came quite well.

hey viet how are you? it is definately ugly! in years to come it will get more handsome. im not sure if it needs branches grafted at this point. there are plenty there.
