Buxus 1982
So here are 2 of my favorite trees . The detail and age in these 2 which ive named "the odd couple" cant be seen in the photos but they are just beautiful.
I really like the pot but after talking to some other mates they have different opinions.
What do you think? I know 2 trees arent right but the age of these cant be wasted by adding a young one into the mix ...
Thanks

Like the pot as well, but think the trees would look better in a shallower container, perhaps oval. Can see a coastal wind swept scene here. Nice trees.

Re: Buxus 1982
Again thanks Craig,
Pots can be a difficult aspect to master but make such a good impact on a tree .
Ill get hunting for some to see , since it is almost that time of year for a repot .
Would you suggest a matt neutral tone or perhaps a glazed like white to bounce off the bark and green foliage?

Would personally go with a neutral colour, same colour you have at present, a glaze could distract from the trees. In terms of size would be looking for something 2 / 3 times bigger than the current pot, similar length as tallest tree (for reference only).
Out of interest what did you have in mind?

Thanks guys ... haha back scratches. .. get your back scratches! !!
Craig like I daid i fo like the pot but also understand that it could be improved with a pot change ... ill have a look at what I have at home later and post a pic .
I agree a neutral tone and an oval ... perhaps a rectangular one with some bulging sides would also suit ...

Re: Buxus 1982
The two tree issue can be rectified by including a rock. This will help draw the eye away from two trunks.

Nice one kirky ... ill give it a crack ...
Opinions on buxus repotting times ?
Also here are a few pot selections . The last one with the elm in it ... the 2 pots either side are what i could potentially put the elm in and use its oval pot for the buxus

Re: Buxus 1982
Its a bit shallower than the rest craig.
How do buxus handle a good root prune ?
The trees are established so not teally chasing any massive growth spurts .
I always get nervous with my old trees and doing drastic things to their roots ... the ole mind set of is a pot worth the tree . But thats the good thing about this site is the wealth of knowledge people are willing to share

Re: Buxus 1982
Difficult to judge from the pictures and not knowing current state of roots cannot give a definitive answer, but would personally be looking at something shallower. As you say they are old trees so wouldn't mess around too much either. Haven't had much experience with box, let's see what others think.

Re: Buxus 1982
Looking at the pictures again, perhaps the last one is better suited, like the oval but looks a lot smaller. Can you put the oval and last pot next to each other?

Re: Buxus 1982
I thunk the oval pot will be to small for these trees . Especially if I look at adding a rockin it to even the balance up .CraigM wrote:Looking at the pictures again, perhaps the last one is better suited, like the oval but looks a lot smaller. Can you put the oval and last pot next to each other?

Re: Buxus 1982
Agree, seeing them side by side would agree blue container is too small.
When you get to repotting work slowly and comb out the roots, with the additional width in the new container don't believe you'll need to remove too much when you get around to it.
