Conifer

Hey guys ,
This was getting thrown out so naturally I grabbed it ... solid bones but need or would appreciate some advice ... as I always get a bit timmid when I approach pines like this . So fire away .

Hi Dibly, is that a pine or a juniper? ID will make a big difference.

It is not a pine. Flat foliage pads indicate either Chamaecyparis or Thuja. The former is more likely I think. Treat it like other confers - cut back but always leave some green if you want that bit to continue to grow. Don't rely on back buds on bare wood.
You'll need some imagination and flair to make something with the bare areas on the lower branches and trunk but good luck with it.

It's not really possible to get onto details here but from what I see, you could go in this direction as one option. When you start working on it you will probably discover possibilities as you go. What is important is that you don't rush into shaping without due considerations and a few sketches so you have a really firm idea for the future. :imo:
