Have not seen that mix before. I make my own mix and source from ANL here in Sydney
Worked out heaps cheaper in bulk especially if you have use of a trailer [no delivery cost]
Plus you can tinker with it

Bought it from Canley height, NSW. $14 for a bag of 30L
Also from Bonsai South and Bonsai Environment in Vindyard.
I think it's widely available

I make my own mix and source from ANL here in Sydney
I used ANL mix for about 7 years until quality and consistency became an issue. One batch was so bad I never went back. I now get a custom mix from a Melbourne supplier. I specify the ingredients, etc so it is exactly what I want and so far it has been very consistent. Downside is it is a 6 hour round trip to pick up :palm:
Plus you can tinker with it
Why tinker? Far better to get something that's right for a start :imo:

Ray Nesci does the same but gets it delivered.
I would still use it except for the Curl grub issue.

Now do the same on smaller scale with Diatomite, Zeolite, Pumice and Akadama from bags.
I know how it works and happy with it.
As for cost it works out just over $100 for 120L and I wash re-use it every year, ( probably lose about 10%) so makes for a very cheap substrate.

Ken,

What do you mean by 'except for the Curl grub issue?"
Please elaborate.

I have thousands of them and Whenever I have a tree in "Normal" mixes, they will be infested severely and nothing I could do to stop them. I lost quite a few really nice trees due to them munching roots and by the time they were seen / identified the trees just deteriorated too much and died
since using inorganics I have never seen a curlgrub in my pots.

I do get some curl grub in the customized mix from Bonsai Environment but I just do a long soak in either water or seasol/powerfeed mix every couple of months and it seems to control curl grubs.

Soaking Never worked for me and as i have too many trees to go thru all the time, it is not a viable method of control.
