Pinus Mugho Clump "Medusa"
This tree was styled in a workshop with Lee Wilson approx Sept 2008, I found a suitable pot soon afterwards but did not repot until today as it had already been repotted in 2008.
Pinus Mugho (Swiss mountain pine) are notorious for being tempramental and can be easily lost after a re-pot, so after talking to a few club members I was advised to do it in November (much later than other pine species) The pot is a freeform pot made by a local potter (sorry I cannot remember her name)
I covered the "tie wires" with poly tube in order to raise the pot a few millimetres off the bench top

After many hours preparing muck and stealing moss from other trees here is the result

Looking good Gerard, plenty of wiring to be done for the refinement. It will then be a stunner.

Re: Pinus Mugho Clump "Medusa"
Pup: thanks for the kind words, I am delighted with how this tree has progressed in such a short time.
Antonio: you may remember this tree from last Dec (you presented your juniper) as I promised, it has been potted in time for this Dec meet.
BTW a friend who does not do bonsai named the tree "Medusa" , personally I believe it is a little pretentious to name a tree unless it is very special but since the name was there, why not share it?
Regards Gerard

Gerard, it is exceptable when someone else names the tree. It is exceptable when you name your Suiseki.

and by the way gerard, with some tweaking and fine wiring and some good care which i know you can provide, this tree will be a great piece for your collection.

Very nice choice of styles there Gerard
In my (very limited knowledgeable) opinion you may have missed bending a cpl branches right at the top on my left? Is this on purpose?
Amazing tree and complete transformation. Very nice!

Yes Grant, I have selected this as the apex and will allow it to be the highest point but will still wire them in the same direction as the rest when new branches develop.bonsaibeginer wrote:Very nice choice of styles there Gerard

Cool transformation on a finicky species. The tree and the pot complements each other.
