Just my little bit Ken, have seen this type of really juvenile foliage happen to odd plants of mine from time to time, more recently a Eucalyptus I have in a pot but not restricted too, have also seen it on Lilly Pilly, Corky Bark Elm and even a bougie.
In all cases the tree bounced back, in some cases it was a repot, I guess (calculatively) that it was trimming just off season and the new shoots are distorted and some cases I put it down to drought stress.

I hope yours, like mine, and others it seems, bounce back
good luck
Watty

I had that on my collected myrtle this year. it looked like a bit of mutant leaves. it has now grown out and the tree is about to flower

Town water has a lot of chemical "clensing" happen to it before it is deemed safe for humans (new plant roots might not have liked it)- maybe the system had been recently treated with something at that repotting time?

It will be interesting to see if they revert to normal later in the season or next spring.

Jan.
interesting thought but as I have another Crepe Myrtyl collected at the same time and does not have the same problem. ( it is on the same bench)

Hi Ken,

:bump:

Did the fuzz end up developing into anything?

I don't trust Bonsai, they are a little shady.

The larger tree eventually did slowly shoot new normal leavs just before winter, then promptly lost them.
I think had lots of dieback, so just waiting till spring to see what I have left. I am not going to repot this year.
The smallmshohin one did not get any leaves before winter, so we will see what that one does

Have these re-shot normally this year? Mine are doing the same thing this year with the mutant leaves. Do you think it's just how the leaves get when it's trying to flower but hasn't leafed out properly yet? You know how coriander goes when it's about to flower?

The small one never recovered and is gone, Pulled it from the pot and never had any new roots growing it seems.

The larger one from last year that had tiny leaves I did not repot this winter and is fine.
The other large one that did not show this behavior last year, I repotted in Late winter this year, and had the tiny leaves and dieback on 1 branch only, but has now picked up :lost:

Next year I will repot the first one but wait until well into spring before doing so to see if that makes any difference.

None of my Crepe have foliage long enough to flower, so doubt that is the cause.
