Re: Golden Zelkova
I love this tree.
A new pot would lift it again I reckon.
Keep us posted ramification is coming along well.
Just clip and grow or wire?

One of the fabulous things about growing bonsai is as you get old and decrepit your trees get old and beautiful

Re: Golden Zelkova
Thank you for showing us the winter image as well as the "in leaf" image.
Of course I would agree on a new pot and although I am an avid user (buyer) of Australian made pots, maybe a good quality Japanese classical pot would suit this to a tee.

Re: Golden Zelkova
With Koji in Australia recently I was fortunate to spend some time with him in a few of the private workshops, during these workshops I took along this Zelkova to seek advice regarding removing two structural flaws that had been bugging me.
1. Main branch that made up part of the crown was leaning back and towards the left
2. A key middle branch was growing straight up and had 3 branches growing from it towards the right and just didn't look good.
The decision was made to remove part of the middle branch that was growing directly upwards and work towards bringing the main crown branch forward and towards the right.
I was worried initially as this branch is very old and seemed brittle, fortunately it moved into position relatively easy.
The work done is a little hard to see in the pictures but I truely feel this tree is now on its way to becoming a show worthy tree for the future.
With my Japan trip book for October I plan in trying to find a slightly smaller and shallower pot for it also as I fell it's time to move away from the green one.

Re: Golden Zelkova
I saw this tree in the bark last weekend, and it is a very nice tree
Koji liked it very much too and so nice to see the development over the time you have had it.
Just goes to show that with someone of skills of Koji, we can improve any tree

Re: Golden Zelkova
It’s been four years since this one was repotted last, I noticed it didn’t really put on much growth this past season so today I managed to get it into its new pot.
Hopefully once it settles in it will bounce back and I can continue to focus on it’s ramifications.

Re: Golden Zelkova
This is magnificent, Iliya.
I love this tree. And the pot... wow! I think it has lifted the tree to another dimension.
Tree's like this give amateurs like me inspiration. Cheers, Mark
PS - I looked up Golden Zelkova - I think it is Zelkova Serrata 'Ogon'. Is that right?

I don’t have much information or knowledge on Golden Zelkova’s,
You may be correct in saying it’s a Zelkova Serrata..
If anyone knows or can help confirm please chime in.
