Chinese elms

Post by badabing888 »

Hi Guys,

Just a quick check, is it too late to dig a number of chinese elms get some root work cut back done before planting them back into the ground?
Im running a bit later then usual and im wondering if ive missed the window.....

None of mine dropped leaves this winter and some put on close to 2 meters of growth in 1 year so they need to be cut back hard...

Do it! They are tough as old boots from my experience. This weeks weather will provide good some gentle sun and good temps for them.

I agree. They are very tough.
I did mine last week including some with opened buds, taking off over 80% - 90% of roots.
I also took off quite a large amount of top growth. What is left appears unhindered.

I did mine yesterday... They had already popped leaves. I find that the Chinese elms are the tricksters of the deciduous world, they will push out leaves overnight without warning. Good thing is that they are difficult to kill.

Nice tree but I am interested in how much you pay those apprentices?

Food, clothing and a roof over their heads, what more could an apprentice ask for??

Wow, is that tree the subject of a separate thread anywhere? If not, how about some progress pics. Looks good from what we can see of it.

If you listen to Ryan Neil that's about all Mr. Kimura gave him.
