fellow enthusiasts,
Just managed to purchase some old nursery material quite cheap- Hazelnut (Filbert) cultivar "American white". Can anyone advise / had experience with this variety developing as good material. I'm mainly interested to see if leaf sizing can be reduced upon regular trimming etc..
They have been neglected for a while, and hence taken to growing in a clump form, with many suckers being allowed to grow freely.
Thanks in advance - Kcar

sopkd,
Thanks for joining & replying my new overseas friend...
Here are some pics of the plants mentioned as bought. They were very inexpensive.
The tallest currently with branches 1300mm length.
Am I nutty for giving these a go?

I would definitely give them a go. I would be interested to know if the plants are grafted, if so it appears that there may be many suckers from the rootstock.

RogerW - Thanks for support - Ill have a good poke around at the bases when this rain here finally stops....wet wet wet ATM.
Bodhi - Thanks for the thread link. Unfortunately for me - these aren't the contorted "Harry Launder's Walking Stick" variety. I'm guessing though your suggested treatment would be the same? Really love the pic of your charasmatic old tree by the way.

If you look up Corylus you will find more info on them and growing requirements.
