First Graft and to cut or not to cut?

Hello All,
On the weekend i performed my first graft! Hopefully I did it right and it will fuse with the main trunk this year!!!
After I saw Mike's demo on maple trees I'm thinking I should be cutting all the branches of this maple to shorten the internodes. I've marked in red what I'm thinking I should be cutting... what you think? is it a good idea or not?

Just a couple of things. I don't think you need to prune the small branches any shorter than they are now. They seem ok to start branching from there. Pinch the new growth to force branching. The graft looks ok but just make sure the entry and exit points are completely sealed. Now that you have put wire on the exiting branch it is very important that you do not try to adjust it or move it in any way. It's sure to fail if you do. You could also put one right at the strong bend at the apex seeing that you have the branch to do it. No hurry though you can do it next year as well. You will need a dine drill bit and a steady hand!

Thanks Mike!!! I think I know what you mean but as soon as I can I'll just post an image of where I understand the branch should go... so you think I placed the graft in a possible correct position?

Mike just to confirm, I should be grafting (probably next year, can it be done in autumn or is it better in spring 2018 ?) on the pointing arrow?

Yes that's the spot. It's not essential tough and you might even get a natural bud there this spring?
