Digging Elms in January
Hi all
What part of January can you dig elms safely ?
I remember see and reading somewhere they go semi dormant in jam .
Start , mid or end I cannot remember . Can someone please confirm.

I have root pruned Elms in January with no problems but never collected.. I reckon you could though.

They are pretty hard to kill that’s for sure .

Going this morning , before it gets to hot .
Decided to dig 2 a week and label and find out for myself best time in Jan to dig .
Only shock they will get its water !!!
Drier than a pop corn fart where they are

There are a couple of substantial suckers in my backyard , I will dig them this month and add the knowledge gained to the discussion .
The two trees pictured were defoliated and repotted on 18/12/17 . Mild root prune and it looks like they will be OK . The suckers will be defoliated also .

I saved the best ones for this winter, walking through the bush was like an autum day kicking and crunching leaves under foot .
I think I will be fair to say this will work .
