Nice! I missed mine, was away went it changed, but I think it wasn’t great colour this year anyway as it was too hot in autumn.

Re: Large Crepe Myrtle
Ta. I was pleased to see it colour up so nicely, considering we didn't really have a cool Autumn.
I even had some colour in my Japanese Maples!

Has yours bud burst yet? Mine are almost due, the nodes are starting to turn red now but not swelling yet. I got one from that guy off eBay also, it has some buds, am hoping for many!

Re: Large Crepe Myrtle
Nothing on this big CM, but some of my smaller ones are already leafing out. It won't be long!

Re: Large Crepe Myrtle
Melb - love your Big CM - it makes my small CM seem ... well... rather small.
At least the little one has something to aspire too!
And my Tagline says - Bonsai teaches me patience.... once again this morning my impatient wiring led to branch splitting - hence a close look and you’ll see a cheat - a black cable tie used in an attempt to save a small branch. Fingers crossed!

Re: Large Crepe Myrtle
Thanks Mark, I bought it as a very large bare rooted plant, so I can't take any credit for the size at all. At my age I can't really afford to grow everything from scratch, if I want something that may look the goods, lol.

Ah... but you can take credit for keeping it alive and styling it ... and that - I think - is the satisfying part of our addictive hobby!melbrackstone wrote:Thanks Mark, I bought it as a very large bare rooted plant, so I can't take any credit for the size at all...

Re: Large Crepe Myrtle
There is that! I do have quite a few different sized CMs, and since joining ausbonsai and getting SO much extra info on growing in Australian conditions, I've found them to be quite well behaved and reliable. I think everyone who has access to this resource should be very thankful for it, because even though going to club meetings can help, there's someone here nearly 24/7 to answer a question, and that is priceless, imho.Ah... but you can take credit for keeping it alive and styling it ... and that - I think - is the satisfying part of our addictive hobby!

100% MelB .... and glad to see your CM going nuts. That’s technical term used to describe a tree in good health.melbrackstone wrote:....I think everyone who has access to this resource should be very thankful for it, because even though going to club meetings can help, there's someone here nearly 24/7 to answer a question, and that is priceless, imho.

Not sure what happened to my last post but MelB, I was agreeing 100% with your statement that this AusBonsai forum is excellent and I for one am thankful for it.

Re: Large Crepe Myrtle
So, I got one last year off the same eBay seller... a red flowering mildew resistant hybrid... it’s pink...
Hopefully it’s still a mildew resistant one!

Re: Large Crepe Myrtle
Yeah, I was told that one of the ones I bought was red too, so I put it into a cream pot. It's lilac, and NOT mildew resistant.
The other one was supposed to be white, so it went into a red pot... it's pink! (no sign of mildew though.)
grrrr
nevertheless, they're both good sized trunks.
(I think if we want red, we need to buy it when it's flowering.)
