When the leaves have dropped it is easy to see the structure of deciduous trees. I can now tidy up branch structure, remove any problems and set up for new growth in spring.
Here are a couple of before and after shots taken last weekend. And a larger one - branches still being developed to fill this one out.

Those trees are on my personal bench though it is starting to groan under the weight of too many trees so if someone were to make an offer I could not refuse

Love the mini Japanese maple, good colour

Good eyes Roger. That's a self sown JM seedling that just came up in the pot. I have trouble pulling them out so just leave them until winter then transplant to another pot Almost certainly a seedling from "Seryu" which has very divided leaves but most of the seedlings revert to a far less divided leaf shape - good demonstration that seed does not always come true to parent characteristics.

Most of my Japanese Maples have good colour because of our climate. Not quite as good as usual this year because it was warm for so long into autumn but we did finally get a reasonable, if late, autumn display. Many JM still have leaves which is rare for June.
