Well done, that is an improvement.
Would you consider a cut at the first branch? Make a good shohin!

I like the transformation too.
So many of us look for the 'balanced' or 'full' bonsai but I think one sided and abbreviated trees are far more dramatic and interesting. Well done on seeing it.

Thank you!!! Do you mean to cut the right part of the tree and keep only the first branch? If that’s the case that was my original idea but then the windswept came naturally while I was working on the tree... I’ll see how this tree progresses, I like the tree mainly for the bark and the flowers but I’ve not being able to reduce the leaf size to a level I’m comfortable with and to be honest I don’t really like the leaf shape... this is the time of the year when I enjoy this tree the most…

Ha! This is why Watto is next level. I’ve gotta get that brutal with my stock! For me, I reckon such a move would be preceded by a swig of single malt and then pour yourself another after the cut and ponder what little pot you’ll buy.

Don't be in too much of a hurry to cut down to the first branch, even though Watto's always right, of course. For me the top branches have some interesting angles, the lowest branch less so. There's a risk when "trying to find the smallest bonsai within your tree" that you lose complexity and interest, just to make it smaller. (Been there, done that...) I'm also curious to see what it looks like with leaves - this may help decide how you go with this tree. If it has height and complexity, the longish drooping leaves might be attractive, where if it's too small, the leaves just look big.

Does it flower? That's another element to consider.

Thanks for posting,

Gavin

Thanks Gavin, yes I have no intention to cut it now but I wanted to make sure I understood where Watto suggested me to cut... yes it does flower and that’s the reason this plant is still alive!
