2 small Chinese elm bonsai from cuttings

Post by Grant Bowie »

Hi all, I took some root cuttings about 2 years ago and a nice branch cutting at the same time. They have both been transferred to bigger pots last year and are ripe for exploitation.

OK, not in perfect order but you can see a tree in pot after the other stage. Root system cut very shallow and root out in nowhere that has struck as well and will grow and thicken.
I will trim up both trees tomorrow and post

Grant

Very interesting progression with lots of info.
Would you mind making the photos a bit larger so us old timers can see them better please?

This particular root cutting had been difficult on the day to separate on the day of the demonstration. It struck easy enough, but I thought it was going to turn out to be a dud because the main stump did not sprout any shoots. But the main is still alive and if it sprouts I will incorporate the new branches, if it doesn’t sprout I will carve it.
