yamadori box
I've been looking at this for a couple of days trying to get an idea of what to keep ,best front etc.-maybe use a car jack to fan out the trunks a little-too much to chose from so I'll take my time and hope to make the right decision.--I would like to keep as much height as possible - maybe foliage clouds with some dead wood up the top .It is possible to have too much to chose from .any thoughts appreciated.

Hi Guy.
Your tree reminded me of this:

One of the fabulous things about growing bonsai is as you get old and decrepit your trees get old and beautiful

I like picture 3 as the front.
Is there a reason you have kept that horizontal branch down the bottom? And will you be air layering the branches you will be removing?

I don't trust Bonsai, they are a little shady.

Wow! I'd love to know where people get their ideas/visions on carving from. I have a few trees I could carve but I struggle to see it, if you know what I mean...Boics wrote:Hi Guy.

I would imagine it would be similar to branch selection wouldn't it? You just gotta start and let the rest just happen...Raymond wrote:

No real reason except I wanted to keep as many options as possible for when I actually have to make a decision--I may even leave it for another year for the tree to recover and to see if a design becomes obvious.
As for air layering ,probably not.I already have enough plants and only collected this because of the potential.I had too many layers and growpots and struck cuttings ,so last year I gave away about a hundred or so plants to downsize and have more room and time for the most promising.
