Great choice reducing the second trunk IMO it looks much better.

I also agree with Ken on keeping it, I think it looks much nicer.

Do you plan to keep growing the second trunk out to the right, or make it slowly curve back to the left in harmony with the main trunk?

I just can't stop looking at that beautiful nebari :D

Cheers,
Pearcy.

I haven't decided exactly how the second trunk is going to fit in with the overall canopy but I wanted the first low hanging branch on the small trunk to balance the first branch on the main trunk. I also figure it's better to leave it for now rather than chop it and regret it later.

Here are a couple pics from the repotting in very early spring.

Lovely tree, well done.

I agree in keeping the second trunk. If you do decide to keep it, consider removing the first right branch on the main trunk. It creates a bar branch and it also interferes with the second trunk.

Matt.

I have to say that when I scrolled down to see the most resent pictures, the small changes really improved an already promising tree. Love that root base.

I'm with Matt is removing the parallel branch of the main trunk, the one on the right as we look at it. That will have the effect of opening up the whole structure.
You have such a great base that requires a top to match.

Okay, so just an update on this one. It has been in it's new pot for about 4 months now and is filling out pretty nicely and getting a rounder canopy. I am still not entirely sure what to do with that second trunk as it seems to be getting swallowed by the foliage of the main tree.

Always keen to hear some more experienced perspectives and suggestions.

Cheers

I think the answer is simple. Prune one or the other so there is some space. In this case I think taking some of the smaller trunk apex will do the job. The apex of a second trunk usually performs the role of a side branch - top shoots are pruned/trained outward in another foliage pad. This is a natural reaction in secondary trunks as new shoots grow toward the light and you'll see it in garden trees, etc.
