Collected from sisters house Canberra Boxing Day, approx 9-10 yrs old (she reckons),lived under a gum in poor/dry soil, branches cut/trimmed to fit into car, and brought to Tumut. It will stay in shaded area, fed seasol. Very thin root layer.
Pictures show what i think to be front (post different angles if requested)
Style? (thinking tall slender broom)
Jin placement?

I think you should let it settle in and recover from the out of season collection before doing any more work to this tree. Lets see if it survives before we spend time deciding on a style.

Thanks Shibui. I've been told to leave it for a year in a shaded area. What do you think the recovery process will involve me doing? Should i remove more of the leaves? Is Seasol enough? I told my sister she would want it back after 5 years....is that a pipe dream?

Not too shady. Trees need sunlight to grow and it also helps them recover after transplant but pick a spot where the soil will not dry out, even for a few hours. After 6 weeks it will either be dead or will have recovered and can be given more light and normal care. Leaves provide food and energy for the plant. Leaves will help in recovery. If there are too many the tree will decide which ones to get rid of so even if most/all of the leaves turn brown and drop they usually recover, just continue care until new buds appear. I have had trees look dead for 6 months then suddenly start growing.
Plenty of people swear by seasol for transplants. I don't use it. I find it has little effect so it is just wasted time, effort and resources Most of my transplants live and thrive.

5 years should see a very nice tree from this plant. It already has a nice trunk so let's see if it survives then plan further.

Shibui....3 weeks today....3 to go

noticed a few (4) buds on a low branch about a week and half ago....checked them yesterday to see how they were going and they looked the bloody same i know their slow going but come on 0.0001 of a mil is ridiculous

Hahahahaha I'm getting like Wal it's been under our orange tree getting only morning sun so i've moved it to full sun, feeding it camellia/azalea fert and blood and bone. It's been about 7 weeks since i dug it up, so yeah i'm expecting a bit much from the poor girl

Hi everyone, wondering if i can remove unwanted branches now and if they need to be sealed ?
or
should i shorten my wanted branches back closer to the trunk (say 50-80mm)

it has new growth as well as new buds but the new buds are still too far away from the trunk. The days here are still warm but the nights are dropping a bit

Right-tio ,i started a new job at the "meat processing plant" in Gundy, slaughtering 2500+ baa baa's a day. I need to slaughter some tree's now to balance my Ying and Yang thang dango

So.....can i start chopping off all foliage and remove unwanted branches? I've been lead to believe that, if foliage that is left, the tree will feed that, and a branch with no foliage/bud is more than likely to die, however, if there is no foliage whatsoever, the tree will feed all branches evenly and force buds to develop on said bare branches

Also.....do i need to use cut paste or should i try that aluminium thingy

And another thing...do jins on Buxus work

and yet another....would using diluted sulphur on the trunk look gnarly, i'm thinking the whiter the trunk mixed with the deep green of the leaves would look freaken awesome, but as my name suggests. i have "no idea"

and that big root....somethings gotta be done about that...carve it into two mayhaps...dunno
