Buxus Harlandii Shohin Progression

Post by Thymetraveller »

My dad bought me this tree for my birthday back in April. It had a fantastic fat base, and I reckon it will make a pretty good shohin, eventually!

Here it is, April 30th 2016, standing 32cms tall. It was badly potbound; I had to remove 2/3 of the root mass even to get it into that humungous pot!
I cut back the longer branches around four months ago and today seemed like as good a time as any to further reduce the roots and hack it back some more. Eventually it will go into a much smaller, round pot, but not yet...

A pleasant couple of hours later, and here's where we're at.

16 cms tall, trunk just shy of 5cms across where it leaves the nebari.
Seasol, tlc, let's see how it develops!
I'll update when I next attack it.
Cheers all!

Nice little tree in the making. Harladii is great material. We should see more of it.

Great base Thymetraveller ,will turn out to be a beauty. I know its a pain but I would be wiring all your main branches at this stage. I have several similar on the go and they can thicken up pretty quick. Looking forward to future updates. Cheers John.

Thanks folks!
Good point about wiring, John. I'll get on it after work! :tu:
