Cedrus Libani winter location Melbourne

Post by pureheart »

Hi All,

I recently purchased a cedrus Libani in literati style (I will post photos) and I've never worked with such specimen before...

I was reading that they don't like cold weather and should be indoors in winter... is that true for Melbourne? I have a mini greenhouse should I put it in there in the colder months or there is no need?

Thanks for any help!!!!!!!

I have one quite old . Exposed to -7 here in NE vic last few winters no problems at all. Watch the hot summers I reckon . Mine stays quite wet and ive noticed no ill effects . Be carefull removing too much root mass, I hear they hate getting there roots touched and ive only done minor root work on mine last five years . They get lovely small needles clustered and nice bark when old

Thanks! I will leave outside then... yes I read about the root pruning... I'm planning to check/prune roots in spring 2020/2021... it feels recently repotted and not 100% stable in the pot.

Time from bonsai sensation has some nice specimens. Hopefully he sees this post.

I know these trees grow in high mountains where there would be hot summers and cool winters.

It would probably roast k. He bonsai pot though if left in too much heat here in Melbourne...

Nice tree too!

Thats quite a nice tree pureheart. Nice movement. Just needs a wiring down the track no rush though. I like it

Its not looking happy? Where has it been kept? There is a lot of browning on the needles.

Do you have any materia / link on how to work with this specie? Does it need to be pinched like a juniper? Thanks
