Collected Privet

Hi Everyone,
I collected this privet about 3 weeks ago, I was wondering when I'd start seeing new buds on it? My experience is usually it would have had a few by now.

It had about 12 hours wrapped in wet towels, then about 24 sitting in water with a bit of seasol, then it was potted up. Originally it was about 3 metres tall so it's base is about 15ish cm wide.

I know it is still alive, cambium is very green. It's just strange that it's taking so long to bud.
Thanks!

Hi Harbs
I think it will still be OK. They are tough as nails
2 months back I let my 2 privet branch cuttings dry out completely. They dropped all
their leaf but continued to show green cambium. I left them under my bench so they stayed damp.
Last week one came out in shots so I expect other will too. Your looks like a bigger version of my ones.
I would just keep it damp and wait.
good luck :fc:

I dug one a few weeks ago and it doesn't have a bud on it yet, but I am not too worried. I think in time they will come, patience grasshopper!

It will be fine.
A note on cutting stumps. There is no point cutting an angle until after the buds have sprouted and provided some options. Initially cut straight across square to the trunk. When you cut an an angle to begin with you are limiting where buds will grow from and you will need to re-cut it or carve it anyway.
Cheers,
Symon

Thanks everyone. Guess I'll just have to play the waiting game. As for cutting the stump, I'll make sure to do that next time.
