Hey guys,

I was given this sickly and old gardenia from a friend's garden, as you can see it's got some hideous character, reminds me of the film The Thing (1982).
having problems uploading these 1MB sized photos to the site, so here's a quick imgur link:

Any thoughts of what I should do to it, that is if it buds leaves again?!

Cheers,

Jack

See if it survives first and then cut right back to get rid of the ugly top bit, keep the seasol up to it and let it grow and get some roots first :imo:

Sweet Jesus your right.... that's too ugly even for WP's "fairy tale" style  .
With a bit of carving work though, something like below might be advantageous?. ;)

Haha!
Maybe I could carve a face like this one into the top bulge?

Yeh that's is one ugly stick but if it was mine I would cut it right back only leaving about 10cm above soil level. Hopefully, it will spring back with plenty of shoots. Then plenty of fertilisers to boost its growth for a year or two then choose your style by then.

Yes Her0d,
Good suggestion - By doing this you could then take it around "Trick or Treat'n".
