Wind swept juniper

Post by pebble »

I’m in need of some inspiration, I’m having bonsai block....
Anyone have and good wind swept bonsai pics or slanted style?

Have this juniper that I have from my beginners bonsai class from a few years back that is in need of some styling again

Maybe I can just get some advice from the masters on here [WINKING FACE]

Nice conversion Pebble. It's very similar to what I would do. What I would have done differently with a windswept style is to leave the jinned branch somewhat longer. I've done the same in the past with a couple of my trees where I've cut too much and then wished I hadn't. To me :imo: it would look more windswept if the top branch was jinned a little also. But nice result so far. :tu2:

I agree with Raging Bull, heading in a nice direction.
:imo: the foliage needs thinning out.
Windswept trees are doing it tough.
More jin less less leaf.

thanks for your replies, yeah agree with having to thin out the top, which i will get too soon.
as for the jin the photo doen't do it justice its probably 40/50mm long but is bent so looks shorter in that pic. i tired to make it look snapped with torn bark.
I found a pic from its first styling that i will put up, from 2 years ago.

Windswept is one of the most difficult forms to pull off imo. Consider that to make it more believable you can allow some very short branches growing into the wind. This can come later on when refining the image and arranging twigs but to me it can mean the difference between wind swept and ''currently in a wind storm'' style. :D
