Buxus Bonanza

These buxus were in the way of the 110 sqm shed site so the owner removed them with an excavator and dropped them into the stream at the back of the property . the clumps are around 1000 x600 each {hence the esky was used} and will definitely fill a tandem trailer plus .

Unlimited potential here from forest groups . twin trunks , clump style to sigle tree's , slanting , informal to upright and cascade . Some of the larger bases are well over the 100mm mark in sigle and fused bases .
These will remain in the creek until the heat disappears and before I get the surgery required which has been put on hold for a few months . That will give me time to rip out a trident bed to make way thr this stock .

Once again I find myself feeling deep envy! Here I am putting few small buxus in a pot to create a forest - yep, you know I like forests by now. And here's Alpine - transplanting an entire island from a river bed to a garden bed. Strewth.

Hi MJL , Mate I love the challenge of a good haul , especially when a machine does all the heavy work . The only draw back is I need the excavator back to retrieve them from the river bed and load them up .

Hi Boom64 , mate I did a little research on Box and put up a screen saver of a very nice Buxus Bonsai them hit her with the good news . What I don't use for Bonsai I will make a hedge out of , she loved the idea

Good luck with your surgery Ian, I wish you every success with it. Likewise the Buxus, they really are quite forgiving, and even if you can't get the trident bed cleaned out, you can set a Buxus hedge up, and nick a few bits out of it as needed.

Hi Mel' , disappointed that I have to wait another 3 months but I will use my extra time very well . The tridents are expendable to have these in a grow bed . Karen can admire the Bonsai'd hedge from the dining room .

Ha s no-one ever told yo Alpine:
1: you must only root prune just before bud burst.
2. only one 'insult' per year - you must never prune roots and top in the same season.

There's obviously no way any of these can survive

We all need to open ourselves to the possibilities. Alpine gets these breaks by letting people know he is a bonsai grower and is interested in saving any plants that are under threat. The more people that know, the greater your chances are....

Hi Shibui maaate they were trimmed with an 066 stihl 2 weeks ago and root pruned with excavator when dug , I just untangled the root masses and ended up with a few trunks . Bloody good haul alright , they have been in the stream for 2 weeks and have quite a few new buds just appearing at the bases of each trunk , is that bud burst and I didn't top them does that help .

With cooler low 30 degree temps for the next week and now they are covered in soil and under shade cloth they stand a reasonable good chance of survival . Couldn't not take a gamble with these , tomorrow I promised the wife I will take a well earned day off after I um do a few tasks around here . Its hard work when life gets busy .

C'mon Alpine, 'fess up, you are just being a good environmentalist cleaning all that feral buxus out of the creekbed. You just happened to be a bonsai man to make it worth it. . By the way, if you keep going like that you may have to purchase a few more acres to house all your greenery.

Hi Raging Bull , No bull just doing my bit for the environment, these were destined for the fire heap so i gave a few simple instructions and they were carried out . Without the machine I wouldn't have bothered , they were just too big and my old body wouldn't handle that much work .
Unfortunately the stream was turning into a creek so it was now or never ,plus with the excavator still on site it made loading a breeze . Paying the penalty today but it was worth the effort . I think that's enough acres to look after .

. I actually used the machine to haul the concrete into the foundations rather than a wheel barrow , Working smarter not harder . The operator was responsible for removing , trimming and loading , many thanks to Arnold for a job well done
