JSP ideas

Post by Don doonbr »

Hi all
After some input on styling this juni. As you can see its a twin trunk with a few curves...
Do i semi cascade it or cut the lower trunk/branch and go with some form of upright..slanted.. Something. As you can tell im undecided... Your input is appreciated! :tu:
Sorry for the average photos.. Havent really photographed bonsai before
Cheers Ryan

You will have to lose the upper, or lower branch to bring back to only 1 whichever way you go..
Not a lot of taper so i would just wire and bend the stuffing out of it to get some interesting shapes.

I'm with Ken. It either needs to be a cascade or upright but should not be both.
there will always be difficulty deciding which is best. I have decided that when I cannot decide which way to go it is because both options will produce equally good trees. Therefore it does not matter which you choose :D - toss a coin if you like but it is important to make a choice. I have found through experience that the tree will never develop to its potential while you procrastinate and leave both options growing.

You could airlayer the bottom off if you really want.

Yes, you could air layer a piece off it. That will take at least 6 months and meanwhile the other section will not be developing as it could. You can probably buy a new one similar to waht you'll get from the layer for less than $20. How much is 6 months worth?

That's quite an eye-opening thing to suggest.... I'm very taken with this idea! (Mainly because I've got something similar, and I've gone and set an air layer...and all this time I could have just gone and gotten a proper one.)

Brilliant!

Going to rethink my plan, thanks shibui!

Thanks for the input everyone.. Pruning and styling wont be happening for a bit. The weather in Canberra is just over 30* for the whole week.. And with my lack of experience i think all wait until it cools down so i don't do unwanted damage haha.
