So a while back I purchased this from Neil at Shibui

it is Shimpaku foliage grafted onto some unknown landscape juniper, I liked for the large trunk width - about 8cm at widest point.
I took it along to my club meeting the other night - really just to give it a clean up as i havent had time to do anything other than water and fertilise.

I sought the opinion of a few people and one plan really stuck in my mind - inspired by trees i imagine are found at a high altitude somewhere in the US.

Still plenty of work to be done one the deadwood, but im determined to do it all by hand so thats going to take time.

then some bending and basic branch placement - the direction is heading to our right - im still not sure about the back branch yet - but i think ill remove most of the foliage eventually and just leave a little at the top for an apex.
I think its had enough shock for now though.

After being fed and left alone all summer and autumn this guy had a repot and a little wire applied a few weeks back.




I'll wait a few weeks for some strong growth to ensure the repot and root reduction went according to plan then do a little more foliage reduction and further wiring.

Coming along well and the pot suits the tree. Long term project but I'm looking forward to seeing the progression.

Agree with Watto but needs a little more wiring at the apex. I am sure that is in its future though.

Yes plenty more wire is needed I'll get some nicer photos up once it's on.
Nice tree ToddB, exactly the kind of thing I was thinking.
The pot is roughly the style I want, but is way too big.
The root system is very one-sided, so there plenty of scope to reduce in the future.
For now it stays put.
