My biggest challenge yet

Post by kez »

Hey folks,

Made the trip up to bonsai south today, and I just couldnt resist.

This came in off the farm just this morning, has had some ground growing, estimated age at 20-25 years!

Here's a teaser pic for now while I work on thinning this beast out

I'll post another once it's thinned,

Any thoughts as always are most welcome

Update time,

so far this tree has taken me about 4-5 hours of thinning, a little pruning and wiring. Most of the tree is now in wire, and the rest I will leave for tomorrow when I am back at the nursery as I need a little guidance with regards to the apex, and some excess branching/buds in the interior of the tree.

I am very happy with the results so far, but thanks to Leong all the work had already been done and it has so far just been a matter of tweaking

Here's the tree as it currently stands
IMG_1512 (800x533).jpg
And a shot for scale (that's a 1 litre bottle of seasol for reference)
IMG_1513 (800x533).jpg
A shot of the trunk
IMG_1514 (800x533).jpg
And the base

And another shot of the trunk for scale

I'd love it if anybody has any thoughts/advice or opinions they would like to share

Thanks folks,

Yep, from bonsai south and yep the price on the pot is what I paid! There's another 5 or 6 up there at the same size and price, amazing value!

Cheers, Kerrin

Hi Kerrin,

A fantastic result from your first styling, you have to be happy with the outcome (I know I would be). Hows those hands now after all of that :P but it is worth the effort. I might have to get out there soon before they all go.

Stocaz, Bonsai South should be your first stop when in Sydney as I do rate Leong as having the best stock in Sydney and not only that, a extremely friendly and humble guy.

Kerrin, please be sure to keep us posted on its progress. I look forward to seeing in a Bonsai pot when the time comes to pot it up.

Cheers

Yep, hands are as expected a mess, but yes I am very happy! Definitely going to become pride of my collection.

David I highly recommend getting in there ASAP, he has since brought in more pine stock at the same size, as well as some 1990 vintage stock which is as one would expect very special!

Thought I'd put up a pic of the work that was done yesterday on the pine
IMG_1983 (800x533).jpg
I really love the age and drama the re-style has given this tree. It reminds me of a tree you would see in an old dark wood, and probably one that you would give a wide berth!
The top needs to be filled in and re-set once that happens but for now its recovery time

Hope you all enjoy, any thoughts would be great

good work----very nice age --my only a suggestion would be an overall design with a left or right (probably to the right) lean in the main lower trunk which would add a little more interest
