Re: Formal uprights
Lookin good. But maybe time to for a good thin out? There's somthing about formal uprights that give an impression of majetsy like no other style can. They kind of make you look up into the tree and make you feel small.Brian Bishop wrote:G'day All,

Re: Formal uprights
The tree is developing some nice ramification now and is wired every year.treeman wrote:Lovely straight trunk on this one kcpoole! How's it look in winter?kcpoole wrote:What a great post.

ps forgot to add, the green tape on some places are to mark branches and shoots a "DO NOT CUT". They are being grown to use for grafts and I select a few shoots to keep for that purpose. I have 3 thread grafts on the tree now, and 2 more shoots as backups in case they fail and need to replace them if the grafts all take then I will remove the unneeded ones.

Re: Formal uprights
It's developing nicely. Interesting to see it in a few years! Have you considered a few sacrifice branches off the lower ones to speed up thickening?

Re: Formal uprights
I have, but I do not want to thicken the lower branches where they come off the trunk. As the trunk is slender( an understatement) i want to keep those branches in tune with it.treeman wrote:It's developing nicely. Interesting to see it in a few years! I have had a few lower branches over its time, but remove them after a year or 2 so they do not swell any particular area of the trunk.
