Re: Old Blaauw's juniper
Very nice work and only in a couole of days. Great story too
A stick in a pot is better than no stick at all. Remember even the best bonsai started as a stick.

A nice result Grant and great patience demonstrated for the wiring job.

Re: Old Blaauw's juniper
Thanks for all the comments.
I think this tree is an example of trees we all have, to a greater or lesser extent, that get abandoned or that we don't work on enough for various reasons. It could be we have too many trees, we have lost interest in a certain species or just are too busy to give the large amounts of time that advanced trees can soak up; especially if you are working full time.
I am pleased that the previous owner realised that the tree needed working on and put the tree up for sale. I was very pleased to get it back and to work on it. I have plenty of time to work on my trees since I no longer have a full time job working for the government.
I have learnt a lot in the last 10 years or so and was pleased to have an advanced tree to work on; so thanks to the previous owner for letting me have a second go at this particular tree.

One of the fabulous things about growing bonsai is as you get old and decrepit your trees get old and beautiful

Re: Old Blaauw's juniper
Grant, great material worked very well to create what will become a lovely stately juniper. Well done indeed. You should be very proud of this tree.

Re: Old Blaauw's juniper
I will let the tree rest for a month or so to ensure it is going ok. By then it will have been fertilised 3 or 4 times and I will then do a bit more plucking off of older foliage and some tweaking and further compaction of foliage pads.
Then leave it till March next year to re pot. I should be able to remove the tie downs and Jin the stubs.

Re: Old Blaauw's juniper
Update,
The tree has coloured up a lot over the last few months and has put on some growth.
I am now tidying it up and still hope to repot it in a few months time.
