A Small Juniper Bought from Chris Di Nola

I tried to make this post in the origial topic but was unable due to the fact ivé not made 50 posts or something along those lines.....

Anyway, I purchased this little Juniper in June 2013 from Chris Di Nola. Finally I got around to styling it about 18 months ago. A few days ago I gave it a re-wire and a tidy up. Still a ways to go but should make a nice little tree in the next couple of years. Currently sitting in a Ron Lang Nanban style pot.

The trunk has great movement.

I see a smaller tree in there - with the top jinned off. Here is a photo with the top cut off the top (but reckon it could all be jinned from the suggested apex up?)

Either way, I want it in my yard!

Ahhh very cool, you've amassed a great collection of trees and those leptos are fantastic. I got a couple of that same var and they put on new foliage with nothing but fresh air and water.

Thanks Andrew. Yep - those Leptos grow very vigorously, faster than anything I've seen before, especially so soon after collection. All things being well, I'll attempt to start styling them later this year.

Any details about the dig? Some growers have had real problems keeping leptos alive after digging. What season, what type of soil they were dug from, treatment while digging, aftercare, name of beer - any information would be useful.

1. Get as much root mass at collection as possible.

2. Pot up as soon as possible

3. Use open mix. I use diotamite

4. Water intensely. Dont let the mix dry out at all whilst they are in recovery

5. Keep in semi shade till showing resovery.

6. These were collected in late nov/early december

I recently bare rooted 2 leptos in winter, one 2 weeks and one 3 weeks ago. I was quite rough with the roots. Do you by chance know how long they normally take to show signs of decline?
