Thanks Anthony.

I left more than originally planned to, especially on the right above the twisted jin for future options and the health of the tree. I decided I wanted to grow that right branch upward as a secondary apex (you can see it best from the back view) and just removed the foliage in between to create some negative space between the pads. There is also 2 branches coming from the same spot right next to it. I left both so I can thicken one (probably the one more to the front) so it can then be jined in the future once it thickens, or maybe change it completely.

Time will tell.

Cheers,
Pearcy.

Here's a better photo of that jin for you Jarad.

I originally had it turned so you could see more of the secondary branching from the front. But after Averil explaining how it makes a jin look weak from the front view we decided to level it out a bit. The more I think about her saying this the more it makes complete sense to me.

Another thing Averil said that I found interesting was foliage should not be on the same level as the jin.

Hope the photos help mate.

Cheers,
Pearcy.

A couple of months on and 1 branch was lost in the end. It was the branch at the bottom left under the longer protruding Jin. When originally styled I knew this branch would be the one that struggled, as it was wrapping around the trunk in the opposite direction to where it is now and took alot to position it under the main trunk line.

Good thing Bonsai is continually changing right? (Just think positive thoughts Pearcy, think positive thoughts) :P

Not to worry! I well assess it when I have the time and either Jin it, pointing to the rear maybe(?) or simply remove it. The branch somewhat next to it (at the rear) can be brought around to the side and down a little while still maintaining foliage at the back, so should work out fine if I want to stick with a somewhat similar design.

I'll post a photo when I have the time to work out what I'm doing with it. Decisions, decisions...

Cheers,
Pearcy.

Hope it all goes well Pearcy as I'm really intrigued.
Must be in a wacky zone as all my life I'd put 'Mint Julep' in the the Southern American category of an 'iced drink' associated with sprawling Magnolias ,Rambling Homesteads, cotton farms, large hats and white suits.
If nothing I'm now educated in this species :lost: :reading:
Keep it going.

Hey Pearcy
How is this one going? Are you starting to get density?

In a bad way at the moment. I messed up... Removed too many tips.

Will survive but looking like there may be some die back. I'll keep you posted in the coming weeks.

Real shame, was looking to be a nice little tree.

Thanks for telling us. What not to do is just as important as the good stuff.

Good luck down the track.

At the moment it appears a few of the crotch shoots are pushing and will keep the tree alive, but they're at the base of the branching. Looking like most the shoots have not pushed and most the branch structure is gone :(

Just need to keep telling myself it's a glass half full learning experience haha.
