Pine cone from Tasmania

Post by melbrackstone »

I picked up a pine cone at the Emu Valley Rhododendron Gardens when I was visiting there in early May, and when I returned home I put it into a paper bag. A couple of weeks later the seeds had mostly fallen out, and so I planted them.

Today I noticed that some of them have shot. Does anyone have any idea how I'll be able to identify the tree, (other than returning to Tassie?) I suspect I'll be able to drop back in there next year, so I suppose identifying the seedling would no doubt take longer than a year anyway....

Will it come down to bark, needle size and distribution, and in the future, cones?
